Excellent organization, great atmosphere, unique Dalmatian ambience and top tennis are the reasons why WTA Makarska Open hosted by Valamar is one of the most attractive tournaments in the world of tennis. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković also visited him today.

"I am glad that today we are in Makarska at the WTA tournament, which has been held for several years in this city, where he moved from Bol on Brač. It's nice to have the high quality of world women's tennis here. I congratulate Mr. Lukas and all the organizers, Mayor Paunović, County Commissioner Boban, everyone who supports this tournament and of course the Minister of Tourism Glavina, because the Government has been behind the tournament for many years. This is a great opportunity for our female tennis players, I am glad that Petra Martić is in the quarterfinals today, we wish her success. The last time a Croatian won this WTA tournament was in 1998, it was Mirjana Lučić, and our Iva Majoli was the last finalist, it's been twenty years. We are here to cheer for Petra and for great success, the promotion of Croatian tennis and Croatian sports, tourism and Makarska", said the Prime Minister and then watched part of the match of the only remaining Croatian representative at the tournament, Petra Martić, who fought against the Australian tennis player for the semi-finals. Along with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Tourism and Sports Tonči Glavina, Prefect of Split-Dalmatia County Blaženko Boban, Member of Parliament Ante Sanader and Mayor of Makarska Zoran Paunović cheered for Petra.

Tournament director Feliks Lukas has been behind one of the biggest events in Croatian sports for eight years, which has been held in Makarska for the last three years, and this year he brought as many as seven Croatian representatives to the tournament, thus breaking his own record.
