Potapova and Wurth will play at the WTA Makarska Open today at 8.30 pm, and Ružić will play against Schmiedlova at around 5 pm. Lukas lost to Chinese Xiyu Wang 6:3, 6:4.
For Croatian tennis players wednesday was focused on the afternoon and the Central Court. Tara Wurth came out on the field first and did a great job, beating the Hungarian Reka Luca Jani with 6:2, 6:4.
"I played against this girl, I knew I had a good match ahead of me. I played very well in the first set, I managed to keep it in the second set and I am overjoyed with this victory ", said Wurth.
She found out at the last minute that she would play in Makarska at all.
"Yes, I found out at the last minute that I was playing and I really thank you for the invitation."
Tara is the 357th tennis player in the world, she is 19 years old.
"I have a small German surname, but I am from Zagreb. I have been training since the age of seven and I am slowly entering professional waters", said a satisfied Tara.
The first seed Russian Varvara Gračeva defeated Slovenian Dalila Jakupovič 7:5, 6:4, while the second seed Italian Lucia Bronzetti lost to Anastasia Gasanova from Russia 1:6, 6:4, 7:5. Olga Danilović beat Japan's Hozumi 6:2, 6:1, while the fourth seed, Poland's Magdalena Frech, was followed by Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6:1, 6:0.
Sixth seed Clara Burel from France knocked out Romanian Bara with 3:6, 6:1, 6:3. Anastazija Tihonova saw off the Croatian representative Ayline Samardžić with 6:0, 6:1 from the field.
The penultimate match on the Central court was played by Tena Lukas, but she was defeated by the Chinese Xiyu Wang 6:3, 6:4.
In the last match, the Croatian representative Antonija Ružić and Dea Herdželaš from BiH played under the spotlight. In the thriller that lasted until 11 pm, Ružić won with the result 4:6, 6:1, 7:6 (7).
Today, Potapova and Wurth will play in the match of the day at 20.30, and Ružić will play against Schmiedlova at around 5 pm.
