Svetac and Wurth entered the main tournament, bringing the number of Croatian representatives in the main draw to seven.

An interesting day for tennis fans in the city under Biokovo. On the central court of the Tennis Center in the first round of the WTA Makarska Open, Australian Maya Joint defeated our Ana Konjuh 6:2, 6:2.

Unlike Konjuh, two young Croatian representatives who qualified for the main tournament had reason to celebrate. It was Tari Wurth who defeated American He with 6:0, 6:1. Young Split player Sara Svetac was also excellent. She defeated Australian Tayla Preston 7:5, 6:4 and entered the first round of the tournament for the second year in a row.

"This is the most beautiful tournament for me, from the location of the organization, level," said Sara after today's victory, and WTA Makarska Open director Feliks Lukas says that with the entry of these two young Croatian hopefuls, as many as seven Croatian women are in the main tournament. By simple math, that's almost a quarter of the draw, or 22 percent to be precise.

Among the more interesting matches, we should mention that in the first round, American Chirico was better than Slovenian Zidanšek, a two-time winner of this tournament when it was still played in Bol, and there was also a surprise from Jimenez Kasintseva from Andorra, who defeated the German seed Ella Seidel in three sets.

Tomorrow is "Croatian day"

Tomorrow, two seeds, both from the top 100 in the world, will play on the center court - Egyptian Mayar Sherif and French Diane Parry. Sherif against Tig, and Parry against Davis. The winner of the first Makarska tournament, German Jule Niemeier will play against Latvian Semenistaja.

Tomorrow, no fewer than five Croatian tennis players will play - Petra Martić against Frenchwoman Margaux Rouvroy, Petra Marčinko against Romanian Miriam Bulgaru, and in the Croatian duel, Svetac and Wurth will meet. And for the final match of the day - Kaštel's Tena Lukas will play an all-or-nothing match against last year's winner and second seed, American Katie Volynets.
